Liliana Borda
Liliana Borda was born in Bogota, Colombia. After high school she
worked as an assistant to the art director of a local advertising
agency, where she started to hone her drawing skills. She
went on to obtain her graphic design diploma at the University
of Jorge Tadeo Lozano. During that period she participated
in art workshops and was inspired by famous Colombian painters
such as Luis Caballero, Fernando Botero, David Manzur and
Hermanos Rendon.
During this time Liliana was also becoming increasingly involved
in pressing environmental issues in Colombia, and in 1995
she became director of the Verde Vivo (Live Green) Foundation.
After publicizing the environmental dangers of the destruction
of vital rain forest by major oil companies, she received
several death threats. She sought political asylum in the
United States in 1996 and has worked in child care for several
families in Saratoga. She is continuing her art education
through evening classes at De Anza College.
